I was honoured to create the headstone for the late Michael Black. The son of a vicar, Michael trained as a sculptor with Edgar Frith of Burford in the 1950’s. He went on to become a renowned sculptor in the Oxford area. He was well known for his carvings of the ‘Sheldonian Heads’ displayed outside the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford.
His headstone was installed in April 2022. Located at Wytham Church Burial Ground, Oxfordshire, the stone stands not far from his carving workshop.
